Since the very beginning and following in the tradition of her mother, Judi of Karoo Moon has strived to work within her local communities to train and empower women to continue the artisanal traditions of hand spinning and hand dying. All of Karoo Moons gorgeous yarns are hand dyed in small batches of 12 balls allowing for a slight variation in the resulting colour. Enjoy these gorgeous colours from soft pastels to jewel tones, earth tones, fresh and bright or our favourite neutrals. These yarns have long been well known and loved by both knitters and crocheters in South Africa. Now they can be enjoyed by you as well.

First Moon is a sock weight yarn of 100% Merino Wool, hand dyed in small batches of 12.  Let your imagination play with this colourful and lovely-to-touch yarn.

Blend: 100 % Merino Wool that is Herco treated.

Mixed Moon

The luxury of Kid Mohair and Silk plus the function of Merino and Polyamide.Mixed Moon is a silky blend of 15% Kid Mohair, 15% Mulberry Silk, 50% Merino Wool and 20% Polyamide. Delicately spun for lightweight luxury!  Mixed Moon comes in a large variety of colours and the silky nature of the wool is soft on the hands. The blend of these different fibres ensures both quality and durability while giving a different texture and end product to the more traditional 100% Wool yarn from Karoo Moon.

Mixed Moon is well suited for knitting or crocheting socks, shawls, light weight sweaters and is sufficiently strong to be used for warp yarns in hand weaving.
